Surviving as a Solo/Duo in Rust - Tips From Someone Who's Died Way Too Many Times
Let's get started: If you've ever spent three hours building a base just to get zerged by a 10-man clan five minutes after wipe, you already know the pain. I've solo/duo'd more wipes than I can count and died more times than I'd like to admit, but here's w
1. Pick the right kind of server first
This one gets skipped a lot, but it matters more than any in-game tip. If you're solo, duo, or a small trio, playing on a server with no team cap means you're fighting clans that outnumber you 3-to-1 on every fight. Look for servers with an actual enforced team size cap, not just a rule nobody checks. It changes the entire game.
Don't farm in the open
Same as any wipe — stick to tree lines, do zig-zag movement, hold control to look around while still moving. If you hear footsteps stop farming and get ready to run. Doesn't matter how good your gear is, an AK from a bush you didn't see will end your run.
Blueprint wipes will burn you out
This is the one nobody talks about enough. Weekly wipe servers that also wipe blueprints mean you're re-grinding the entire tech tree from a rock every single week. If you've got a job/school/life, that gets old fast and it's a big reason people quit Rust entirely. Servers that wipe the map but keep blueprints let you skip straight to building and raiding instead of grinding scrap for hours before you even get a gun. Worth checking before you commit to a server.
Building for a small team, not a zerg
With 2-4 people you can't out-build a clan, so don't try. Build tight, build vertical, and prioritize a good loot room over a sprawling base. A small base that's actually defensible beats a huge one you can't cover.
Where I play
If any of this sounds like what you're looking for, I run/play on DSG 2x Monthly Vanilla+ — NA (EST), hard 4-man team cap, monthly wipes (first Thursday) with blueprints never wiped, extra recyclers and drone marketplaces so you're not fighting over the one spawn. client.connect 170.39.213.7:28080

Have a good wipe, and don't farm in the open.
